If you were to look at Sakura and Syaoran now, you’d never think that they were
once rivals. From the beginning, they never really got along, but the more they were
together, the more their friendship blossomed. Once their friendship came into full
bloom, a love began.
Sakura and Syaoran met when Syaoran arrived at Sakura’s school as an exchange
student from Hong Kong. He came to Tomoeda with one purpose only, and that was to
retrieve the Clow cards for his family. Syaoran, a direct descendant of Clow Reed, has
been brought up in a very strict manner. Sakura, on the other hand, was brought up to be
a cheerful, high-spirited girl. Friends and family always surrounded her and
she always had a smile on her face, while Syaoran was the complete opposite. He often
excluded himself from people and usually remained serious.
From the start, they have been rivals, but not just for capturing the clow cards. They
were also rivals in schoolwork, sports, and love. But what’s this? Rivals in love? That’s
right! They were both infatuated with Yukito. Everytime they saw him, they would
always blush and begin to compete for his attention. But as time went on, Syaoran
realized that he was also attracted to SAKURA! He kept on trying to deny his feelings for
her, but Tomoyo noticed his attraction to her and encouraged him to admit his feelings.
In season 3, after all the clow cards were captured, Sakura and Syaoran thought that
their cardcaptoring adventures were over, but boy were they wrong! Eriol, another
exchange student from England, appeared. *dun dun dunnnnnn!!* Eriol is the
reincarnation of Clow Reed and his purpose for coming to Tomoeda was to help Sakura
change all of the Clow cards into Sakura cards (but S+S don’t figure that out until the
end). He would cause disasters throughout the city that would require Sakura to change
her cards in order to use them. During this time, Syaoran’s feelings for Sakura grew and
he finally admitted to himself that he was in love with her. He realized his feelings for
Sakura with the help of Eriol. Eriol noticed that Syaoran liked Sakura and would always
try to make Syaoran jealous. Because of this, Syaoran began to realize that he had no
feelings other than friendship for Yuki and was really in love with Sakura. in this season, Sakura decides to tell Yukito her feelings for him. when she does, Yukito tells her that she doesn’t really love him and that she loves someone else and the love she feels for him is like the type of love she has for her father. Sakura cries at the swings and Syaoran comes by and comforts her. he tells her that someday, she’ll find the one she loves, but at that same time he’s hurting because he sees her so hurt. After Sakura
transformed all the cards and had the final battle against Eriol, Syaoran (weak from the battle) tells Sakura that he loves her but Sakura was caught by surprise and didn’t respond. It then came time for Syaoran to return to Hong Kong and when Sakura found out he was leaving, she went home and began to cry.
Suddenly, from a tear she cried, the Love Card was created. It was then that she realized
that she loved Syaoran back. She had made a bear for Yukito, but instead decided to go to
the airport and give it to Syaoran. When she got there, she lovingly gave him the bear, but
still did not admit her true feelings to him. As they stood at the gates of the airplane,
Sakura and Syaoran blushed as they gazed into each other’s eyes. After Syaoran left,
Sakura stood there and said “I’ll be waiting for you.”
